Lemon Curd and Cream Cheese Danish Recipe

Egg-shaped danishes with a bit of savoury cream cheese and a lemony curd? Perfect for Easter baking! The puff pastry and lemon curd can be made in advance and stored in the fridge.

Recipe makes 12 danishes.

(You can also use store bought puff pastry)

1 ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups of all purpose flour

½ tsp salt

½ cup water

1 egg, beaten

Lemon Curd (homemade, or store bought)

Softened cream cheese

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the butter, flour and salt. Using a pastry cutter or your hands, blend the ingredients together.
  2. Add water and continue mixing until you have a cohesive dough.
  3. Form the dough into a round disc shape (about 6-7 inches) in diameter. Wrap in plastic wrap and place in the freezer for 20-25 minutes.
  4. Once ready, flour your surface and grab your rolling pin. Roll out your dough to about a 6 x 12 inch rectangle and use a letter fold (2 folds into the middle). Take your dough and turn it 90° and roll it out to a 6 x 12 inch rectangle. Repeat the letter fold 4-6 times.
  5. Wrap up your puff pastry and allow it to chill in the fridge for 4 hours or overnight.
  6. Preheat oven to 400°F and roll out puff pastry until it’s about 1/8 of an inch thick. Using a circular cookie cutter about 3x3 inches in diameter, cut out rounds. Using your rolling pin, roll the cut-out into the shape of an egg. Use a fork to poke holes into the centre of the pastry dough and leave a 1 cm perimeter from the edge.
  7. Brush the pastry dough with egg wash and bake for 10 mins at 400°F and then for 20-25 minutes at 350°F until golden.
  8. Once cooled, take your cream cheese and spread it into the cavity in your puff pastry. Add a dollop of lemon curd in the middle.
  9. Enjoy!
