How We Offset Co2 Emissions

At Pokoloko, we're proud to offer you sustainable choices for your apparel and home goods.

In today's world, it's our duty to be more aware than ever of our ecological footprint. That’s why we have started a new project with Ecologi, where we plant trees to offset CO2 emissions.

Having ethical environmental practices is imperative and it remains a priority in everything we do here at Pokoloko. As we continue to grow, ensuring our values remain rooted in the natural world and everything it has to offer is essential.

Planting Mangroves Trees in Madagascar

The Eden Reforestation Project in Madagascar, focuses on planting Mangrove trees. More than 90% of Madagascar’s original forests have been destroyed, displacing entire animal species and taking away the local's ability to farm and live on the land.

By planting Mangrove trees, they can capture up to 4x as much carbon per acre than tropical rainforests. Three quarters of tropical fish rely on their root systems for nurseries and shelter. We can help to offset CO2 emissions by investing in this project.

Projects We Support to Offset Co2 Emissions

The Peruvian Protection of the Amazon Project:

By protecting 98 hectares of the Amazonian rainforest, this prevents over 660K tonnes of CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere each year, which in turn helps offset CO2 emissions.

Ensuring long-term conservation and sustainable management of the forest, promotes healthy wildlife habitat, and prevents future compromise of the forest carbon stocks.

The Istanbul landfill gas extraction project in Turkey

It produces 65MW of electricity, enough to provide clean and affordable power for 1.2 million homes.

This project captures and converts waste gas, methane, from sanitary landfill sites. Methane is around 32X as potent a greenhouse gas as CO2.

The gas is used to power turbines that feed electricity into Turkey’s grid. The funding of this project directly prevents the equivalent of 1,500K tonnes of CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere every year.

Forest plantation on degraded grassland in Uruguay

It turns over 21K hectares of land that has been used for cattle grazing for over 300 years, into sustainably-managed forestry.

Overseen and validated by the Rainforest Alliance, the project’s initial 60 year lifespan will remove over 700K tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Aside from carbon removal, the project will result in a significant contribution to sustainable development of Uruguay, mainly through increased quality employment, rural development, and biodiversity and soil preservation.

Delivering Clean Drinking Water to Haiti

After the 7.0 magnitude earthquake in January 2010, millions of Haitians have been left without clean water and sanitation.

This Gold Standard project supports over 2,000 families, delivering over 250 million liters of water to their homes.

With safe drinking water, communities reduce time absent from school or work due to illness and save money on medical expenses.

This project presents a new solution to the challenges of extreme poverty, poor health, and the increasing CO2 emissions associated with burning wood to boil water for drinking.

The Hydraid water filters provide a simple, safe and effective household water filter that will operate for 10 years or longer. It uses centuries-old slow sand technology to remove up to 99% of waterborne pathogens.

Help Pokoloko Offset CO2 Emissions

Every time you buy from Pokoloko, we will plant trees in the Pokoloko forest to offset CO2 emissions accumulated in the process of sourcing material, creating our goods and shipping them to you.

Reforestation is widely understood as a major natural climate solution. From an ecological perspective, we’re only just grasping the cost of what life is like without trees. We feel it is our duty to invest in our planet every way we can.

We are now a carbon neutral workspace. This means we offset the carbon footprint of every employee’s lives, as well as offsetting any business travel. This means we offset their entire carbon footprint, including emissions from their home, personal travel, holidays, food, hobbies and more. We are on our way to being 100% climate positive.
