3 Reasons We Love Turkish Cotton (and Why You Might Too!)

Whether in your bedroom closet or tucked behind the door at the end of the hall, around your shoulders or hanging in your kitchen/bathroom - here are a few reasons why we’ve chosen Turkish cotton as a premium thread in our collections for years!

Turkish Cotton is a High-Quality Thread That’s Made to Last

Finding high-quality goods for your home can be a challenge. We’ve probably all experienced this.

There’s nothing worse than a nice shirt that unravels after a few washes. Cue the sad cinematic music track.

It’s unacceptable at worst, and disappointing at best.

So when out on your next shopping trip, look at the materials that go into making each product. The threads that make up the foundation of your clothing can help determine its lifespan.

With Turkish cotton, you know you’re investing in a premium quality fibre that’s made to last. An extra-long staple fibre (ESL), Turkish cotton is very easily harvested using sustainable practices.

But what makes it so premium?

Now you’re asking the right questions!

How Many Loads of Laundry Does the Average Canadian Wash Per Year?

Canadian families are washing an estimated 2 loads of laundry a week per person.

A family of 4 is then looking at somewhere between 7-8 loads of laundry for the same time frame, for an average of 364 – 416 loads a year!

To Turkish, or not to Turkish Your Cotton…

3 Reasons We Love Turkish Cotton (and Why You Might Too!)

1. Softer + Fluffier + More Absorbent

Unlike your typical household cotton, Turkish cotton becomes softer, fluffier, and more absorbent with successive washings. Yeah, you did read that right. More use makes it better. Sound the horns!

Unlike terry cloth, which becomes scratchier over time (think: your average bath towel!), Turkish cotton becomes softer.

Premium, darling.

2. Longer Fibres = More Durable

Compared to the short fibres of regular cotton, the ESL component of Turkish cotton yields longer threads.

Longer threads mean a more durable weave with fewer joins/seams, producing a smoother fabric. Ooo la la.

For those of us not too keen on replacing our towels too frequently, Turkish cotton is the thread for you! Buy less - make it last. Its fibrous integrity renders the material long-lasting, meaning it’s truly worth your long-term investment! If you agree, sounds like you also have a slow & circular fashion mentality, too.

3. They Hang Dry Quickly

Convenience is your friend! Turkish cotton is pretty friendly, too.

The fibres of Turkish cotton dry best when not exposed to excessive heat - so there’s no need for a machine tumble! In fact - we don’t recommend putting them in the dryer.

And hanging to dry uses less energy (take THAT energy bill!)

Because of its rapid drying capabilities, you’re able to use your Turkish towel again sooner, avoiding the dampness that regular cotton towels hold onto for longer. Our Turkish cotton towels wick away moisture, while terry absorbs the moisture.

We’re happy to say we specialize in premium Turkish towels! We design them in Canada. Fairly-traded direct from our independent Turkish artisans for you.

Turkish cotton towels come in a variety of styles and sizes, including bath towels, hand towels, washcloths, and beach towels. They are available in many colors and patterns, ranging from classic white to bold prints.

They are also less likely to pill or shrink compared to towels made from other types of cotton.
