Pokoloko's 2023 Sustainability Report

Pokoloko's 2023 Sustainability Report

 Your purchase has power.

Pokoloko goods are from off the beaten path - rich with century old techniques and stories that connect maker and earth. A Poko product is more than a beautiful piece to gift, wear, or create a home. We’re committed to facilitating transformational change to make a meaningful difference for our planet.

“We live in a world in which action to protect our natural world is no longer an option - it is at a level of urgency that makes action mandatory. As a business serving a community, it is even more crucial that we participate in sustainable solutions and ways of life. We consider creating demonstrable, positive social and environmental impact a key part of our strategy, and the only way to operate and move forward with success.”

- Jessie Lyon, Poko Co-Founder

As a climate positive business, we are constantly seeking new ways to innovate our sustainability practices - this is our social responsibility and commitment for the planet & all that grow on it. Packaging, material sourcing, shipping, it can all add up. This is why we practice sustainable efforts to reduce our (and your) carbon footprint.
In our 2023 Sustainability Report, we sharpen the focus on our sustainability commitments by sharing the ways our team and our customers have made an impact.

Our social purpose is to leverage our platforms and compassion to drive social change with remarkable outcomes. Together, we enable human connection and giving back to our communities, with the help of our friends and followers. In 2023, Pokoloko and participating brand partners hosted Instagram giveaways and campaigns that made an impact.

Here are ways our online communities made social change:

For the past 3 years, Pokoloko has partnered with Ecologi to accelerate global climate action. We believe that if people work together, they can do amazing things. That’s the spirit of collective action in a nutshell, and we see it happening every day!

With each Poko purchase 2 trees are planted in the Poko Forest. In the past 3 years of our partnership, the Poko community has planted 51,336 trees, and 628.55 tCO2e avoided. So, what does this mean? TCO2e is a handy way of talking about all greenhouse gas emissions (carbon dioxide, methane, and refrigerants, etc.) together in the same measurement. While the biggest impact we can make as a business is to reduce our own emissions, carbon avoidance projects all provide complementary climate solutions to prevent greenhouse gas emissions, restore nature, and support local communities.

Pokoloko has supported the prevention of 628.55 tCO2e from being emitted through 50 verified carbon avoidance projects.
  • Protection of the Matavén forest in eastern Colombia: This project will prevent an estimated 3,622,352 tonnes of CO2e emissions per year, during its 30 year lifespan
  • Generating renewable solar electricity in Egypt: This project is avoiding 83,683 tonnes of CO2e emissions each year.
  • Repairing water boreholes in Eritrea: This project supplies the local community with a source of clean, safe, drinking water.

Make it an eco-friendly gift with Compostable wrapping.

Pokoloko's gift wrapping materials are sourced from Montréal-based company, Compostable.ca by Compost Montréal, a social enterprise that focuses on greenhouse gas reduction and the improvement of agricultural soils through the creation of compost.

Using Compostable products for packaging and shipping reduces environmental impact!
