Safe At Home: Cornerstone Housing

Safe At Home, With Pokoloko

You’ve been away all day or for a couple of days and you’re just about to turn the knob to enter your home. You step inside, and with a sigh of relief you kick off your shoes - you know you’ve made it.

You’re home. You’re safe at home.

A place you’ve curated with paintings, pillows and goods that suit your lifestyle and unique personal style. Plants that are like your children, souvenirs or conversation pieces on shelves with stories and memories to remind you of the life you’ve created. Whether or not it needs a dusting - it’s all yours.

Helping Women Feel Safe At Home

Our little luxuries are designed to highlight the luxury of the homes and spaces we live in. Poko pieces are designed to last with your evolving life, and help you feel safe at home.

Now, imagine your space wasn't safe.

Or that it was taken away from you.

Home would have a very different meaning, wouldn’t it?

It’s for this reason that we have partnered with Cornerstone Housing for Women as we turn up the love on our summertime home and cottage renewal over the next two weeks. Because everyone should be able to feel safe at home.

Safe At Home: Cornerstone Housing

How Cornerstone Helps Keep Women Safe At Home

Almost 1,000 women become homeless every year.

Cornerstone helps almost 200 women each day.

All women that live in supportive housing at Cornerstone were homeless for a minimum of 6 months, often up to 3 years, and need wraparound services to recover from the crisis. Up to 30 women (past residents who now live independently in the community) participate in Cornerstone's outreach program each month. 61 women sleep every night in their highly-needed and crowded downtown emergency shelter.Their services are offered in an environment which promotes dignity and a sense of hope.

Cornerstone is committed to public education and advocacy. They strive to increase safe, affordable housing and to end homelessness.

We operate the only emergency shelter in Ottawa, that is dedicated exclusively to homeless women. It has 61 beds, plus additional costs and they are always full.

Feel Safe At Home With Cornerstone Housing

Based in Ottawa, Cornerstone provides emergency shelter along with safe and affordable permanent housing for women in our nation’s capital. With their support and services, women experience what "safe at home" truly means - often for the first time in their lives.

Part of Cornerstone's mandate is to increase safe housing and to end homelessness. The five Cornerstone residences cater to women at every stage of their respective journeys, serving more than 500 women every year. This is done with the help of dedicated staff and hundreds of incredible volunteers, who provide on-site support and refer women to local resources dependent on their respective needs and goals.

Empowered people can empower people. Your purchase power is just that - powerful. As you bring earth-friendly and globally-conscious pieces into your home, you’re also helping to do the same for those in your community. Little luxuries for you, and little luxuries for our neighbours.

How We're Helping

During the month of July 2020, Pokoloko donated a portion of proceeds from the online sales of our Summer Home Collection, directly to Cornerstone Women's Housing.

We were able to donate $540 to Cornerstone Women's Housing. We believe everyone should feel safe at home, especially during these uncertain times.
