This is a luxe, ultra soft, and versatile scarf, perfect gift for friends, family, teachers, and for yourself.
This scarf is hand-loomed, machine-woven, and then machine-brushed for added softness. This unique, artisanal scarf collection is made by a family of Indigenous artisans living in the volcanic mountains of Ecuador. The order of which the colors are woven vary from scarf to scarf, however the colors you see remain the same with each - making it a truly unique artisan gift.
Pokoloko co-owner Case Bakker is the godfather to their youngest daughter, which is a great honor in their community. We are honored to be able to support them through a sustainable, fair trade relationship. The colors and patterns in these scarves is a result of self-directed generational knowledge that has been passed on by this artisan family and their surrounding community for decades.

Nice size and color to this product. I use it as a looped scarf, but it is badly fraying after only 2 weeks of use. It could be that the way the alpaca and acrylic are blended together cause the fabric to unravel. Because I use it as a scarf, it may be that the fabric is under tension, and the fibers are rubbing together.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! Our brushed alpaca products will have some shedding at first, but after some use, the fibers elasticize to themselves and stop shedding.
Have you tried hand washing it with cold water at this time? Feel free to give that a try and circle back to us at support@pokoloko.com.
If the washing and hanging to dry does not work, you could also try brushing it with a bristled brush in the direction of the fiber, this will smooth out the fibers and remove excess. Please keep us updated on how these approaches work for you, your satisfaction is super important to us! Thank you!
This product has a good length and hand feel, and the contrasting colors are nice. However, in practical use it seems that after only 7 to 10 days of daily use the material is badly fraying. The surface fibers are coming away very quickly and making the product look old.
Perhaps it's an issue with blending of the two different types of yarn. I use this product as a looped scarf. This puts the scarf under mild tension with the fibers rubbing together. Perhaps using it as a shawl, where the product lying flat, one would not notice this.
Anyway, it just looks like it's very shabby already.

The POKO Difference
-

                  Artisan made
We travel off the beaten path to bring you independently made products by makers connected to their local communities and environments. We focus on long-term relationships with them. Their skills shine through in their small-scale operations, resulting in quality craftsmanship that’s often individually handmade.
 -

                  Directly traded
Fair trade is one thing and ensures a high degree of confidence that the people, the materials and the environment are not exploited in the supply chain. Direct trade on top of that means the artisan-to-Poko-to-you chain is transparent and, well...direct.
 -

                  Materials mater
We strive to choose materials that have a minimal impact on the environment, and that stand up to the test of time & use. This means working with materials that the artisans choose and have access to, in tandem with developing new products with sustainability & durability in mind.

Shop with heart. Enjoy with soul.
To live richly, we want to surround ourselves not just with beautiful things, but possessions that have meaning and represent the kind of world we would like to help create.

                  Purpose purchase
Whether it's the socio-economic development of the artisans and their communities we work with (for example: interest-free microloans) or giveback products or campaigns; we believe that if we have a platform, it is way more fulfilling to use it for the good of our local and global neighbours.
